Total Investor Version 2.01
---------------------------
This file contains important information that is not contained in
the documentation for Total Investor. Please read it carefully. All
information in this file supersedes information in the Total Investor
documentation.
Documentation Files
-------------------
The file TIDOC.EXE is a self extracting archival file which will
create the documentation for Total Investor. An archival file allows a
large documentation file to be stored in a smaller disk space. The
documentation can be created in an ASCII file named TI.DOC or output
directly to a printer.
To create the ASCII file TI.DOC with a hard disk, set your DOS
Path to be the subdirectory where you have Symphony installed. For
instance, from the root directory, enter "CD SYM" if SYM was the name
of the subdirectory. Put the Total Investor program disk in drive A
and type "A:TIDOC.EXE" at the DOS prompt. Make sure that you have at
least 180K bytes free on the drive where you intend to store the
documentation.
If you have a floppy drive, put your Total Investor disk in drive
A and a blank formatted disk in drive B. If your current drive is A
such that the "A>" prompt shows type "B:" followed by Enter. The type
"A:TIDOC.EXE" at the DOS prompt. This will create the file TI.DOC on
the B drive.
You can print out the documentation by typing "TIDOC.EXE -P"
followed by Enter. Make sure your printer is set to 66 lines per page
and that 60 sheets of paper are available. You can also use your
favorite word processor or editor to view or print out the file TI.DOC
or use the DOS command "COPY TI.DOC PRN:".
Addenda
-------
Installation
------------
1. Total Investor has been designed to run in a 640K memory system.
This requires you to remove any large memory resident programs. If
available, expanded memory is recommended since Symphony can take
advantage of this. An expanded memory emulator can also be used if you
have extended memory .
2. If you have registered and received data for the 30 DJIA Stocks,
make sure that data for both IBM and the Dow Industrials is in the
Stock subdirectory. Read the file DJIA30.DOC for instructions on doing
this.
3. Total Investor is compatible with Lotus Symphony versions 1.1 and
greater.
4. Some VGA systems may require re-layout of the Main window to be able
to see the complete Totals window. Use the Window Layout command in the
Services menu of Symphony to accomplish this.
RETRIEVING PORTFOLIOS FROM PRIOR VERSIONS OF TOTAL INVESTOR
-----------------------------------------------------------
If you are currently using an older version of Total Investor
there is no need to manually re-enter your securities and capital gains
to use the newer version. Versions 1.03 and greater can use the
Portfolio commands to accomplish this. Load the old version into
Symphony and use the Portfolio menu Save command to store your
portfolios to disk. Then load the new version of Total Investor and
use the Portfolio Retrieve command to merge this information into the
program. The Portfolio Name command will next be used add this
portfolio to the list that Total Investor will track. When you have
retrieved and named all of your portfolios, use the main menu Save
command to store this new information.
Versions of Total Investor earlier than 1.03 allowed only one
portfolio per spreadsheet. Load the previous version of TI into
Symphony and then hit Enter to go to the main menu. The type "O" for
Other followed by "O" for Off. Then use Lotus Symphony's commands as
follows, press F9 for the Services menu followed by FXFPORT~A1..J144~.
This will extract the portfolio information in the range A1..J144 into
the file name PORT.WR1 and store this file on the Symphony default
drive. Then load the new version of Total Investor and use the
Portfolio Retrieve and Name commands as described in the above
paragraph.
